You're always trying to motivate your players. There's a time and a place for a speech that would try to motivate your players, especially if as a coach you knew that the cards were stacked against you a little bit.

[The movies] glamorize game day a little bit too much. It's such a focus. They miss a lot of the nuts and bolts, and the time that goes into the preparation each week, or each couple of days in basketball.

Sometimes when your emotions are running high, it makes it harder to execute.

The best thing that a coach can have is experience. The first time that you're going out to lead a team on the field, you have certainly thought about what you're going to say, but it gets easier as you go. You'll learn what works and what doesn't, not just about what you do on the field but what you say to players to get them motivated.

Preparing for another opponent isn't very glamorous. But it's Hollywood. You want to see the fun parts. The meeting rooms are not super fun.

I think the best coaches have their own style. That takes time to mold that.
